Are pest control treatments safe around children and pets?
Providers choose products and application methods for each home, and many are applied in cracks, gaps and outside areas where people and pets do not touch them. Ask the provider which products they plan to use, how long to keep children and pets away from treated areas and what to put away first. Follow their instructions and the product label every time.
What happens during a first pest control visit?
The provider usually starts by asking what you have seen and where. They then inspect inside and outside the home, looking at kitchens, bathrooms, garages, attics and the outside walls. After that, they explain what they found and which treatment they suggest. You should receive an estimate before any work begins. Many first visits take one to two hours, depending on the home and the problem.
When is it fine to handle pests myself?
A single spider, a few ants on a counter once, or a wasp outside a window may be fine to handle yourself with care. Repeated sightings, droppings, scratching in walls, mud tubes or swarming insects usually mean a larger problem. At that point, store-bought sprays tend to scatter pests instead of solving them, and an inspection saves time.
Should I try to remove an animal from my attic myself?
It is safer not to. Animals can bite or scratch when cornered, and some are protected by state rules. Droppings can carry health risks. Keep people and pets away from the area and let a provider handle removal and sealing.
How do I choose a pest control provider?
Ask for proof of license and insurance, a written estimate and a clear explanation of the treatment. Ask how many visits are included and what happens if pests return. A provider who answers patiently and does not rush you is a good sign.
How long before I see results?
Many people notice fewer pests within a few days. Some treatments are designed to work slowly so insects carry them back to the colony, and that can take one to two weeks. Rodent trapping often runs one to three weeks. Ask the provider what timeline to expect for your home.
Do I need to prepare my home before the visit?
Usually only a little. Clear space under sinks, pick up items from floors along walls, and put away pet bowls and children's toys. For bed bugs or fumigation, preparation is bigger, and the provider will give you a list.
Will I be pressured to sign up for a long plan?
You should not be. Providers in our network can offer one-time treatments and ongoing plans, and you choose what fits. If a plan is suggested, ask why it fits your home, what each visit includes and how to cancel. You are never obligated to hire any provider you speak with through Buyingsell Pest Control.
